This is more of a rant, but I had applied for a Senior Financial Analyst position with a local government in January.
I interviewed in February and was offered the position a week later pending a successful background check. This being a government position, the background process moves like molasses, so March rolls around and COVID shuts everything down.
By the end of April, the employer informs me that they are still weighing their options. By the end of May, they say the position is on hold.
Yesterday I got the call. The position was closed due to budget cuts related to COVID.
I was excited for this position. My current job has been taking a toll on my mental health, and working through it with a therapist led me to start applying to new positions at the beginning of the year. I had an secured an interview for 3 different positions. One rejected me right off the bat. Another (startup) froze hiring right after COVID hit.
I was holding out hope for this position since I already had the conditional offer. I’d be working less hours with a good pension.
And now here I am, back at square 1. I feel so devoid of energy at this point. Is it even worth looking for a new job?
