Put in two weeks at cafe job, now they are demanding recipes to products I created.
I got approached to run a new cafe/bakery opening in town. It’s going to pay a lot more and definitely a step up from my current job. I put in my two weeks last Monday and this Friday will be my last week.
The job I’m leaving I’ve worked at for about a year. I was a cook at a small cafe that is part of a health food store. I was looking for something part time to get back into cooking and they were desperate to hire me. Because of this we never signed contracts. I’ve only signed a tax form and proof of American citizenship form with them.
As I expected their desperation was a sign of poor management and I was treated poorly/underpaid the entire time. But I did my best to create good products so I could gain confidence in whether or not I’m good at my craft. In this time I created a few products we sold in the store that increased the kitchen sales quite a bit.
Now I’m leaving and they want my recipes for these products. I don’t mind selling them but on no terms do I feel like they have given me the respect or dignity to deserve that kind of courtesy on my part. As I never signed any intellectual property contracts is there anything I should worry about? (Other than some confrontation and shade from them lol.)
Thank you!!
