Should I ask my reference whether he was contacted from potential employer? [DETAILS INCLUDED]

I had an interview last week and my references were being contacted. My previous team lead was contacted and give a great reference. My previous manager lives in a time zone with a two hour difference and was contacted by potential employer but didnt answer but a voice mail was left. Manager returned the call with voicemail. He told me last week he would contact them again today. But his vacation also began this past weekend.

I've never meet my previous manager, he managed us virtually. And I'm not too close to him but he said he'd give a great review based off the work that my team did. I'm debating whether I should touch base with him again or not. Maybe I'm being impatient. What do you guys think?
