Where to look for state job posting?

I applied from out of state prior to relocation and recently hired as an RN at a large teaching hospital in upstate New York. I applied through the hospital which has several different "employer" for their job posting and different bargaining units. I honestly didn't know I applied for a state job, but pretty happy with the pay and benefits. I took job A just to get foot in the door to transfer when job B is available at the main hospital.

I always known job A isnt what I really want to do, and the hospital campus I am assigned not only look so depressing but is at least half an hour commute without traffic. I am already dreading the next 12 months (12 months probation, and then we can transfer) and IF I make it to 1 year, I have no plans of staying past that.

Options/plan I have: (a) see if I can make it to 12 months then transfer to job B but no assurance it will be available then, (b) find another state job as an RN that will be closer to home if though its not the specialty I want.

I just want out of bedside, regular office hours, no weekends, no holidays, no nights. Having worked as an RN for years, I already did my fair share of stress and working as a glorified maid/drug dealer at the bedside. I am an introvert and really do well working independently.

My questions are: 1. Where to find state job postings? Currently as a NY state employee, we have retirement plan that will get us vested by at least 10 years service so I'd prefer another state job to continue this retirement plan.

  1. If I decide not to complete the 12 month probation in this current unit, will I still be able to get another state job?

  2. I saw my hospital's clinic very close to home and considering transfer said clinic if I cant get the job I want. If I go to HR or talk to recruiter and ask about it as early as now, will it leave a bad impression?

  3. Any good nursing job that will be a good fit for someone who is an introvert, shy, enjoys working independently, pretty much 9-5 schedule that is less stressful than a bedside job.

Thanks in advance.
