A step back?

Hello all!

I currently work for a technology company in Denver, CO. We build apps for insurance carriers and contractors to use with roofing, but we recently got bought out by a bigger company that is based in Oxford, MS.

I am a support rep and making $19/hr. I have potential to be the next Tier 2, in fact my boss told me I am guaranteed the job if I apply. The only issue? They don’t know when the next T2 spot will open. So then my boss suggested QA work, I was able to shadow a couple co workers, and I loved it. But again, they don’t know when an opening is.

So currently I am capped out on how much I am making, with no promotion in sight. I have only been here a year.

Because of all of this, I currently am looking for other jobs. I’ve applied to Junior QA positions, thinking about applying for Visible customer service, but also thinking about going into being a 911 operator/dispatch.

I have wanted to get my foot in the door at the police department so I could do more forensic work, or even work as a police officer, and this seems like a good way. Becoming dispatch, I would have an idea of the job, already know people, and then they will be able to already see my work ethic.

I would be making more money, but I am not sure if for future employers this would be considered a step back. Would this be seen as a step back career wise?
