Why did someone ask me this question during an interview?

I recently had a data science internship interview, and during the interview, I was asked the question: "If you had 30-40 minutes of downtime on the subway, what would you do?"

I was genuinely very perplexed why someone would ask this question, as I've imagined that the point of an interview is for the interviewer/company to learn more about you, and vice versa. Can anyone give insight on why someone would ask this question during an interview? I don't see what the company is gaining by asking what I do during transit.
