Just received a job offer with a 24 hour expiration, but a better paying position will be contacting me later this week. Help.

Hi. I’ve been in this situation before and I chose incorrectly and wasted 8 months at a job before I realized that it wasn’t for me. I just received an offer from a great company starting at 17.25 an hour. Good benefits, great culture, options to work from home after a year, but a 30 minute drive from my house. I am waiting to hear back about a like position that is likely to start at 21-23 hourly, good benefits, and 10 minutes from my house. This is my preferred position, mostly due to the pay and distance from my house.

What do I do? Is it inappropriate to call job 2 about my status? I sent a thank you note to them already and don’t want to come across as needy, but I also don’t want to accept job 1 and then get a call that job 2 wants to give me more money. Any advice would be appreciated
