How do I talk to my manager about switching jobs within the same company (and almost similar role) but at another regional office?

I'll try to make this as short as possible. I'm an SEO specialist/copywriter at a banking company. I make all the marketing materials and handle the website. The pay isn't bad, but let's be honest, everyone can use a bit more money.

Another regional office has opened up a vacancy for a UX writer/copywriter. The position requires you to write for the apps instead of the website. It's something that I can do (part of my skillset) and pay is way higher.

Last year, there was an opening for Digital Marketing Specialist at the regional office and I jokingly said to my manager that I'd like to transfer there instead. He (also jokingly) said, "No way. I need you here to write forever!" But I know there is truth is every joke.

So, there's no guarantee that I will get the job as the UX writer at the regional office. But I'd LOVE to try for it. I love the job scope. The salary is high.

How do I proceed in this situation? Apply for the job? Talk to my manager? Talk to the regional office?
