I’m considering returning to my previous job. I left in October after being there a year and a half. Everyone in my office was nice and I had a very supportive supervisor (however she is no longer with the company). I was one of the youngest people working there (I’m now 23/F btw) since I’d gotten the job straight out of college. Average age was probably 45 and 90% women in our office.
I left to move closer to home and to honestly try something new since I wasn’t super sure cubicle life was for me. I left on a good note and tried to stay vague with coworkers regarding where I was going next and why I was leaving. I didn’t talk badly about the company or my job before I left or after. A main motivating factor for moving back home was that my parents were struggling financially due to layoffs and my mom developed some medical issues which I have not told anyone at my former job.
Things have not been working out at my new job and I’m missing the job security and frankly the money/benefits I had at my last. I’m in talks with my former boss about coming back and she has been working with HR to make me a rehire offer which I’m expecting to receive the details of on Monday. She seems to really want me back and she reached out to me after she heard I was interested in coming back. I’m also hoping to be offered the ability to work remote since my job is 100% computer and phone based and I let the boss know I didn’t want to have to relocate again. (Before I left the company had also offered me the chance to work remote and she should be aware of this).
So long story short, how were you or others that left a comapny and later returned treated by management and coworkers? Did you get any specific conditions placed on you upon returning? For example like probation, receiving benefits after X-time, etc?
Another reason I hope to work remote is that I wouldn’t have to have the same discussion 20+ times with everyone in the office about how my new job bombed, extenuating family issues forced me to return to the job for the benefits, and made me realize I made a stupid career move.
TL;DR how were you or other people who resigned and later returned to the company treated in general by management & coworkers? Did you face any repurcussions?
