Hello! I work as an orthodontic dental assistant in a busy practice. It’s a small office and highly dependent upon each team member. We have, well— had, 5 chair side assistants on the team to see patients and we typically see 50-70 patients per day depending on the day, dividing the patient load along each of us 5 assistants. A few weeks ago, one assistant was let go. I’ve been contemplating finding a new job for a while and out of the blue I got a call from an ortho office that I used to work at — new guy bought the practice and an old coworker highly recommended that their new doctor reach out to me as they were in need of an assistant. Long story short, I meet with the guy and he gives me an offer that seems foolish to refuse— higher pay, closer location, vacation time, guaranteed 40 hrs/week. I take a few days to process this and think it over as I have been with my current office for 3 years and feel loyal to them. Just when I was feeling ready to accept the position, one of my coworkers turns in her resignation notice. If I leave, they will literally have two people left working for them to run their clinic and I feel terrible leaving them that way, but I also want to do what is best long term for my husband and I. New employer offered for me to start January 6 to give them plenty of time to prepare. Am I crazy to feel so obligated to my current employers? I feel so anxious about this.
Thank you to anyone who takes time to offer advice!
