I applied to multiple jobs in my new field (intervention) and got a few interviews. Now, I have to decide between two amazing jobs (same pay $), which I'm so grateful for, but one require me to have an answer for tomorrow afternoon... I'm currently a full time university student, but my class schedule for next semester is flexible. I don't have a lot of bills to pay, so I'm not worried about making a certain amount of money every week. This is more about gaining a new impactful experience for my career and finding the fun-est job, which will make me feel accomplished at the end of my shift.
Job A : Counselling in a domestic violence shelter for victims and their children
- Distance: 50 min from home (1 bus + subway + walk)
- Schedule: different every 2 weeks, around 15h/week, day/evening/night shifts
- Responsibilities: welcome the new residents, apply the rules of the house, resolve conflicts, counselling, ...
- Pros: monthly training courses for employees, lots of down time to do homework/relax/sleep, changing people's lives!, flexible schedule (I can work more during holidays, and not at all during finals), amazing experience in counselling
- Cons: heavy & emotional stories (I'll probably be crying a lot, but as a futur psychologist I kind of need to learn how to deal with that...), unsteady income/schedule, far from home
Job B: Youth Counsellor
- Distance: 30 min from home (1 bus + walk)
- Schedule: regular shifts twice a week, around 10h/week, in the afternoon
- Responsibilities: planning workshops and cooking classes for the teenagers, counselling
- Pros: lighthearted fun job, close to home, steady income/schedule, FREE GYM MEMBERSHIP!
- Cons: no hours opportunities in the summer, working with teenagers (I like kids, but teenagers can be rough to work with sometimes), no down time
Be kind to me please! I appreciate your input, thank you :)
