I had a conversation with my boss this week. He said that if I never called him after my final interview, he won't of offered me the job.
So my boss and I were chatting earlier this week about sales and following up with people. He was telling me about how following up was so important, because we often get lazy or forget and we miss an opportunity. He said that if you don't follow up with clients, you can't do our job.
When I applied for my job, I got to the final interview and my boss said that he was going to email me an employment offer in a few days. By the end of the week happened and I didn't get anything. So waited another week and still nothing. By this time, I was pretty bummed out and thought I didn't get the job. So 2 weeks after the interview I called and left a voicemail and he immediately call me back with a job offer.
When I was speaking to him, he said that he didn't send me out an employment letter on purpose to see if I'd call back.
Most people would think that this is kind of a douche move, but in context it makes a lot of sense.
Moral of the story: make sure you follow-up after an interview. You may already have the job locked in, you just hasn't asked yet.
