Hi there,
So I am planning on relocating to NYC with my wife and went on 3 interviews while I was here today.
I met with 2 start ups and a large insurance agency. All sales based
First company I met with this morning is a start up, fairly young but stable and good benefits frol what I was provided.
The founder really liked my experience (many years of professional experience in my industry)
Before I left, he wanted to extend an offer. I told him I'll consider it once he sends me an offer. I got the offer and the base is a lot lower than I expected (40k base with commission and expectation to make over 100k total)
I have an idea of my market value and experience, I've told the other two companies that my base would need to be at least 80k and no one bat an eye. Just waiting to hear if they will extend offers.
So for the first one, how do I go about negotiating this? I'd need at least 60k to live on as a base if I'm here and 40k was way lower than I thought they would of offered.
This would be a 50% increase, should I negotiate base and have them restructure the commission payout? I mean, with my experience in this industry the norm would be least 50-55 in my town now in upstate NY. Where col is half of nyc.
So this seems really low, especially in NYC.
