I work for a management consulting company. I made and intracompany move from a different country, same company. To be able to do that, I had to make a compromise : previously I was in a technical analytical role in my home country (data analyst), now I am in a more client facing analytical role in the new country. Basically, the only way to advance my career is to become a Consultant (they have already made me an Associate Consultant on paper). The problem is : I love technical analytical work, I hate client facing work. I am an introvert and an INTJ, I am ok with people but I am not amazing with them. I just feel that I am not so well suited for client-facing work. I have been in my new role for almost two years, I did my best and I made it obvious to my bosses that I enjoy and find myself in the technical work. Yet, I am being constantly pushed into client-facing work. I am starting to be full of apathy and hating my job. I want to make a lateral move, so that I can do the work that I like. My bosses will not help me, of them is retiring, the other is too swamped all the time. My company does not have any formalized career architecture program at the moment, it is being worked on. How do I contact the boss of the team I want to move into? What do I say to convince her of that I would be a good fit in her team? What do I need to take into consideration? I just do not know how to approach this.
TL;DR: I am unhappy in my current role and with the way my career is progressing and want to move to another team. My bosses will not support me, career architecture non-existent and HR is good for nothing. How do I approach the boss of the team I want to become part of? Thank you for your advice.
