My GM has been with the company for a long time, and just happens to conveniently be good friends with our HR rep. I have some questions I’d like to pose to HR, however I worry they will backfire. My GM is very petty.
I’m looking to leave the company, as I’ve been getting severely underpaid for the work I’ve been doing.
I’m a Senior Team Lead for a movie theatre chain. A new horrible position they implemented early this year. They laid off thousands of managers by demoting them—including myself. I was affected by it, and moved to a significantly lower pay.
A senior team leads job is to cover for managers when they are unavailable a quarter of the year (their excessive vacation time). The rest of the time they work WITH the managers to help them out. Only one manager runs the building during either open or close, and usually with a team lead to run the floor.
The problem is that I’ve been covering for a manager nonstop for 9 months straight. I have only worked maybe close to 10 shifts in the last 9 months as a REGULAR team lead. It is also Full Time. So I am essentially doing their job but making 2 or 3 dollars less an hour.
Now as far as HR goes, I already tried going to them 3 months ago. They had NO idea what a Senior Team Lead even was. I had to speak to 2 different reps on 3 separate occasions. They ended up just going to my GM and letting her handle it, which just resulted in nothing happening. Because that would mean she’d have to promote me, which would temporarily leave us with an open position—which would result in us being under staffed. She DESPISES that, because that means she won’t be able to take any more time off until it was filled. She has expressed it on many occasions.
TLDR; I am doing the same job as before but have been making less money for the last 9 months. My GM is friends with the HR rep so I fear what would happen if I complained.
