I am looking for advice. My wife just started a job and is little more than 1 week in and her supervisor is unpleasant to say the least. This is the same person who interviewed her and hired her but for some reason is very distant, curt, and generally absent. The office is small, has a large turnover and essentially IMO this supervisor got promoted through attrition. My wife has no coworkers to guide her and the supervisor will not engage. When my wife asks questions or for guidance, she gets single syllable answers in a sardonic attitude. The latest task was to send her, by herself, to various places to become accustom to the facilities but provided no directions to get around.
My wife feels like she somehow has done something wrong, her supervisor has something against her or (as she worries is the case) is just completely normal workplace behavior. The question is, how does she address the situation, being a brand new employee and all makes this very awkward. Does she go to HR, does she confront the supervisor directly over her attitude, does she just quit and start over with finding a job?
