I'm an admin assistant whose most recent jobs are mostly tutoring/teaching/education related (honestly I got my current job out of sheer luck). The thing is, I'm looking to find another admin/clerical job that's higher paid. If I use supervisors from the tutoring centres as references, that's not gonna help me much I think, towards an admin position.
There are two current part-time colleagues that I'm targeting as my two references for job applications; they would be able to say that I've been doing actual admin work.
But is that a good idea? I'm 100% sure they wouldn't secretly slander me but just wondering if you guys think TWO references from a current employer is too risky.
They are not my direct bosses, just coworkers that I get along with (similar humor) and people who I can say are kind people overall. My only concern is that one of them (I'll call him Terry) is kind of close with the big boss; even though I trust Terry to the max, there's a possibility of him subconsciously revealing something about me to the boss.
Tl;dr - Should I use two references from my current employer if it is the most relevant to the job positions I hope to get?
