How does one procure the first job?

I have been searching at entry level locations for about a year now, gotten a couple interviews but my efforts fail to garner any results. Now as of more recently I have graduated highschool which has greatly opened up my schedule, yet employers don't appear to be looking for large availability? If not that, and not dedication to work what are they searching for?
