Fired from job before 90 day probation period possibly due to mental illness but not given a real reason?
Hi! I hope this is the right sub to post in. I apologize if it's long so I'll add a TLDR at the very end! I'm posting this question for a friend with her consent since she doesn't use Reddit. For her privacy, her name will be Carla.
Carla recently started working at a job about 2 months ago. She didn't wanna keep the job because she definitely knows it's been contributing to her depression so she's been looking for other jobs. It was your stereotypical office space, they're cliquey and stuck-up. Don't really talk to her or befriend, misuse her items, gossip, etc.
Carla has been calling out of work lately due to her depression. She straight up TOLD them over email AND on verbally the phone that it was because she's been feeling more depressed lately. One of her managers ended up telling her that she left her on read when she was asking to go home early. I'd like to add that you have medication for this and she can provide proof at anytime.
Upon arriving to work today, she found out that management fired nine other people and two recently quit. 2 hours after starting her shift, they fired her. They didn't give her a reason but they told her to sign the paper to verify that she received her last check. We looked at the papers they gave her and none of them state why she was fired. It would have been her 90 days at the end of October. Neither of us are too sure about this law(?), but I thought you can't get fired before those 90 days? If not, please explain!
Is she eligible to file for unemployment in the mean time until she's employed? Will it be complicated because she was fired?
TLDR; friend gets fired possibly due to depression but not given a real reason? Nine other employees were fired as well. Can she file for unemployment while she's actively trying to search for a job?
