Is a call center job for a large national nonprofit going to help me get a more “impactful” nonprofit job down the road? LONG POST PLEASE READ.

TLDR: Would a traditional call center job for a large national nonprofit help me in applying for more impactful nonprofit jobs in the future? Or no?

I have interviewed for a traditional CSR role for a very large (largest) humanitarian aid nonprofit in the US. See my post history for my desire to work in the nonprofit sector.

I 100% support their mission and programming, but this role doesn’t really support any of that. This is a traditional “call center” job with hours that are far from favorable (11a-8p).

I would be answering phones and emails helping “customers” sign into their accounts and redeem promotional gift cards. I would also be doing basic data entry and basic donor database management.

As someone looking to make a difference and make an impact through nonprofit work, is this position the way to go?

I would be sacrificing time with my spouse and infant (whom I stay-at-home-parent). I also would be back working full time and reducing the actual availability I have to volunteer or pursue other opportunities closer to what I want to be doing (fundraising, grants, program work).

Long post, but would working here for 6-12 months provide any valuable transferable nonprofit skills? Would this experience give me an advantage in interviewing with other nonprofits?

I guess I don’t see a difference in doing this for say, Comcast than for a nonprofit.
