Ask for a challenge vs risk of making thing worse

I got my first job as an Electricity Engineer two and a half years ago in a small start up.Since it's a very small compony, I do various things: Documenting, stock management,QA, purchases, validation tests, field test...A little bit of this and a little bit of that.At first I liked the idea of seeing the whole aspects of how an idea becomes an actual product. In time I have been realizing that most of my job is not about EE.Only around it. It becomes more and more frastuaring.

When I finished studies, I wasn't really confident in my knowledge in electricity. I just had a piece of paper saying that I'm EE, and I thought that through work I'll learn more about it. I have learn stuff through my job that I'm grateful for. Sure. But not as I've expected.I got to a saturation point.

In general, I have a great lack of confidence in stuff I've not done before. If I don't have enough experience, it would take me a long time to get into it (and I would need quieter space than my office...).

I thought about asking my boss to give me more relevant tasks. But I'm afraid it will take me long time to complete it or I'll need help and eventully the task will move to somebody else, and I'll look more foolish than ever....

Have you ever faced this kind of problem?what can I do?
