So I've got a job at Harris Teeter. It's my first job and I would've been properly working there 2 weeks ago if they hadn't mishandle the first drug test and waited for me to call them an ask about what was going on with the second. Starting training tomorrow.
Anyway, my initial plan was to work on Tuesdays and Fridays, and get a 6 hour shift on those 2 days. I've got a class that's about a 30-45 minute drive on Tuesdays only to stay for about 2 hours, so I figured I could easily work then. And I've got no classes on Friday. Work 6 maybe 8 hours on those. Have the weekends off for homework and for myself.
I ran this idea past my mom, and she thinks it won't work because I'll hardly be making any money (need to pay $200 a month towards car insurance, and will need about $60-70 for gas) and I won't be able to pay for what I need.
My dad says it's up to me, but in the end said "It's not about what you want, it's about what you need, and that's money." He'd rather me do Tuesdays, Fridays, and one weekend day (so Sunday).
This would only be for about 5 months, as in January I'll be transferring from community college to a proper uni, and I don't expect to have any days off excluding weekends. So I'd have to work those.
I know in the end it's all situational, and different for everyone, but just looking for some general advice.
