Back in May, I applied for a part-time job at a small, local business in my city that was hiring. The type of work I was interested in is very seasonal. I should mention that I'm somewhat overeducated and a bit underemployed, but have lots of experience in the field I was applying for.
Soon after, I went in for an interview. The owner/manager told me I would be starting work the following week, and gave me her cell number. She told me she would call that Friday to tell me my hours. Come Friday, no call. I called the week after and was told that the weather caused a delay. (It was only cloudy, and a little rainy). I gave it a couple more weeks, still no call from them. The next call, they told me that they were re-evaluating their current employees, and to call back in a week. The next call, they told me "Oh, we've decided that our girls are doing a good job already. Goodbye". It seemed rude.
I should mention that I have Asperger's Syndrome, but excellent communication skills.(The average person couldn't tell). I mentioned my diagnosis during the interview. I hope that wasn't the reason why it didn't work out. The city I live in does have a hard job market. It's disappointing. Is it normal to be told that you were hired, told your schedule, kept waiting, and then dropped and told that you weren't needed?
