I had an absolutely fantastic 2 1/2 hr interview with a company I’d been hoping to work with for months. I left with the clear understanding that I would be offered the position. They asked me to provide references, which I did. Crickets.
I followed up with the director after a few days to see if there was any additional information I could provide or if he had any lingering questions about my skills or experience (really just to get a feel for the status of things). His response was VERY enthusiastic. He said that my references all had great things to say about me, but they’d like me to start on August 1 instead of right away as was initially understood, and that they’d send a formal offer letter over right away. Crickets.
That was five days ago. So, do I have the job?
I have no problem following up with them again tomorrow, but if this is all ‘pie in the sky’ then I don’t want to waste my time.
I have obligations that will be affected by the Aug 1 start date if I don’t get a solid offer ASAP anyway, but If I do have the job then I can work around that date - I just need to know soon.
Oh, and we haven’t even talked about salary yet! Am I missing something here? I’m just being strung along, aren’t I?
