I'm currently a first year master's student in the SF Bay Area (edit: am 21, got BA in 2018); my background is in communication and writing. I'm looking into summer internships so I can gain more specific field-relevant experience, but I'm hitting a lot of roadblocks.
Most of these applications are online, so I didn't have particularly high hopes about hearing back in general. Since February, I've probably applied to 50-60, gotten actual rejections from 10ish (about half of those were from jobs whose qualifications I didn't really match in the first place), and one interview in February for a position that started immediately which I couldn't do. What's bothering me, though, is that a lot of listings I've been finding in my field have been posted in mid-late April with start dates in early-mid June. To me, this seems that if I'm going to hear back, I should soon, but I'm getting increasingly anxious about it.
I currently have a job doing office admin type duties that I started in February and am able to stay on through the summer, but it's not really something I want to do for the continuing future (I mostly got the job to fill time/earn money). I'm also concerned about having enough time to give my current employer the requisite 2 weeks notice given that the whole interview to hiring notice process usually takes at least a few weeks once it gets started.
Am I working myself up over nothing? I do have an interview for a job next week but it's a full time salaried position, not an internship, which I'm tentative about accepting anyway since I will be going back to school in August with a full courseload. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks :)
