I am paid hourly. Recently, I was asked to attend events after work hours to take photos for company’s social media platforms. For those days, I received approval to change my work schedule to be able to leave from my office straight to the event. This helps avoid any downtime before the event starts while still working my required 7 hour shift.
When my hours worked at events were reviewed and added to my timesheet I noticed that I wasn’t being paid for the time spent traveling to the event even though I left directly from the office.
I believe I should be paid for travel time to work related events. I haven’t said anything yet. I don’t want to be seen as greedy or make a fuss out of anything. Yet, if I’m driving out from one work location to another location to perform work I should be compensated for the time spent commuting. I considered seeing if there is written policy on the issue and asking HR before approaching my supervisor. I have yet to turn in my mileage reimbursement form for review but I don’t think I will have a problem with that.
Should I get paid for time spent traveling to work related functions?
