I picked the wrong degree and went down the wrong path. How viable is it to change direction? (from UK)
I'm 27, from UK. I studied Economics for my undergrad degree. But I believe this was a huge mistake. I should have studied something Chemistry related (such as Chemistry itself, Chemical Engineering or something similar) and then gone into one of the work fields which naturally led on from that eg. pharmaceuticals, energy industry, working as a chemical engineer.
At this late stage, what would I have to do, in order to go down this path?
If it involves going back to university for another 3-4 year degree, that's not practical. I would get no funding and have to pay ~£30k in fees alone. That's not something I could afford on my own.
I can't think of another way of doing this, without going to university again. Are there no 1 year courses or fast-tracked programs for situations like this? Or training programs?
If it's not realistically viable to make such a big change of career direction, then that's something I want to hear - I'd like to hear the truth. I could explore a different path instead.
I only have Chemistry up to AS Level by the way. So not even full A Level.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.
