I feel like my work as an intern is meaningless. Would it be a dick move to find full-time employment elsewhere? I just graduated college so my market value is higher than it was when I started the internship.
I intern at a state government organization. I was pumped to learn and contribute to the well-being of my state.
Here are my 3 problems:
1) My boss told me not to worry about being useful. He made it seem that the internship is mostly for me, not for the organization. This makes my work feel empty and my sense of purpose is near 0.
2) I am required to work 20 hours per week, but boss told me to bluff if I have to miss work for school or sickness. After a couple months, he asked me to start working 30 or 40 per week, but I have been unable to do that and he has passive-aggressively reminded me that he wants me in the office more.
3) I am given large tasks and I work hard on them, but he later forgets what projects I am working on and I feel my work is worthless.
It just seems like he has an "intern slot" that he has to fill and he doesn't care at all about what I actually do. He has very little time for me when we are both physically in the office.
I just graduated college and I don't need the money this internship provides, should I stay here to boost my resume? (It has been 7 months, with 5 left in the internship)
I'm a dumb, freshly graduated college kid. What would you do if you were me? Thanks in advance for your insight.
