How do you hack your limited number of vacation days?

My new job only offers 10 vacation days and 5 sick/personal days. Which I realize is more than what many Americans get, but it’s less than what I had at my last job.

I was planning on going on 3 trips this year, but am stressing about how I’ll be able to.

For one trip, which I’m taking in early July, the company said I won’t have enough accrued days but they’ll work with me so I can go.

For the other two trips, I’m nervous I won’t have enough accrued days, and I don’t know if I can “borrow against” days. I don’t have much choice about when to go, because the trips revolve around certain family events. I’m extremely stressed out about it.

So, r/jobs, how do you hack your limited number of vacation days? What tips and tricks help you get the most out of your allotted days?

Also, would it be fine to use sick/personal days as vacation days? I almost never get sick and I know those days will largely go unused.
