Hello, all. So I have worked for over a decade in retail consumer electronics and retail management. There is a job listing that keeps getting posted (retail wireless sales consultant), and my resume is a match according to both indeed.com and my state (Iowa) job board website. I have applied to this position three different times, as they must not be able to find or retain a qualified candidate in this position.
Yet I have been passed over, without the opportunity for an interview, three different times. My employment history is steady, my resume is a match, and I am confident in my skills and qualifications for this position. My mind is boggled as to why I might be getting passed over.
Normally, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, however I currently live in a pretty small town with very few jobs in the market that I am qualified for. I am originally from the city, so I know very little about farming, manufacturing, or any of the more "blue collar" kinds of positions. Interestingly enough, the manager and her entire staff are all female. Now I am not insinuating discrimination based on gender, but it really does make me wonder in these smaller towns if they have an archaic way of profiling their candidates. Regardless, I find it strange that not a single male employee works there, at least from my observations and the observations of others.
How bad would it be for me to march into the store, speak with the manager in-person, and ask why I am not qualified or at least deserving of an interview? I mean, they've gotten so desperate they are now offering a $1,000 sign on bonus. They obviously can't fill the position, and here I am BEGGING for a job. Bearing in mind, I have worked in management for quite a while, and I understand the hiring process perfectly well. I have been in her shoes before. I just find it strange.
