I am a full time caseworker as well as a full time graduate student. Am I asking too much for wanting my employer to be understanding of my current situation?

I am a foster care caseworker and have been at my current employer for almost one year. I’ve also been a graduate student for one year as well. When I interviewed for this position in February of 2018, I made it clear that I would begin grad school starting in May of 2018 and while I will be attending online, I still have to meet weekly for all of my classes like we would in a traditional school setting, it’s just done via webcam. I do my best to try to get evening classes, but there are those that I have to take in the morning or afternoon. On top of classes, I will begin my internship in May of 2019 where I have to have at least one full 8 hour working day a week and the remaining 12 hours can be done in the evenings or on weekends. They told me they were fine with this and even like to encourage employees to pursue higher education and then offered me the position.

A few weeks prior to when the new semester starts, I always email my supervisor with new schedule so that she is made aware, mainly for those classes that I have during the day. I don’t know why I bother though, because I always have to remind her and she becomes annoyed when I do. I do understand that when I’m at work, I have to work and an hour and 20 minutes is a lot to not be doing work. However, I have never let this impact my work performance nor have I gotten behind on my duties (other than filing paperwork). I come in early, stay late, and skip lunch almost every day to help make up for the missed hour because of my classes. My supervisor has had to send me home on more than one occasion because I’m there so much, so she clearly sees I take my job seriously. And if I can, I will attend the other caseworkers court hearings if they can’t make it, family conferences, cover on-call for the weekend if they need it. I do anything I can to prove that I am still reliable.

But when I need to be late to something or can’t make it at all because I have class, my supervisor makes me feel as if I’m in the wrong. Sometimes, I am able to make different sessions for class or I can leave early from class, but I can’t do it every single time and I’m not about to risk losing a letter grade for missing, especially when I’m paying what I’m paying. I figured they would be more understanding since they hired me knowing this would happen and also that I’m pursuing a social work masters degree as this is the field I work in currently.

I am considering leaving my job, but before I do, is this something I can talk with my supervisor about or is this just how it goes in the workplace. Surely, some of you have worked full time and as well as going to school. How did you manage that?
