Have you successfully requested to work 4 tens at your job? Share your wisdom!
I'm paid slightly above minimum wage, but I enjoy the work that I do at my job. It's the first job I've been able to use my degree at but it simply does not pay the bills. Like most low-paying jobs, asking for a raise is basically out of the question. I know I could be replaced within a day because I work a "cool creative job". But on the other hand, I could go work at Taco Bell and actually make more hourly.
I'm treading water as it is and will be underwater starting next month as my rent has gone up almost $300, so I'm leaning toward picking up a part time job. I've applied to other positions with similar job responsibilities and better pay but haven't even received the usual rejection letters.
So I'm left with either going back to bartending full time or picking up some shifts on the weekends and continuing to build what I've always hoped to be an actual career. But working Monday-Friday and then also Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday day sounds like a recipe for misery, and I was thinking about asking my boss to let me work 4 tens since I work on my own for the most part anyway.
Any advice on how to approach this?
