Ok so this is my 3rd story about my job at a private school for 6th -12th grades in New York. These are kids 11-18 living very far from home. Going back in February of this year I returned to work after a long weekend for Chinese New Year. The school I work at is 95% Chinese and almost all of them are on student visas. My supervisor comes in shortly after I arrive to explain that Homeland Security is on campus today and tomorrow. The school also has a small college of about 15 students. The school wants to have the ability to issue an F1 visa for the college students to attract more of them. I was directed by my supervisor that I had to monitor the halls in one of the buildings to prevent the officials from Homeland Security from seeing the middle school aged kids. I was told they directed some teachers to block doors to prevent students from entering some of the buildings through certain doors so they wouldn’t be seen. He also directed me to hide the middle school students (ages 11-13) behind the building that has our cafeteria so the “agents can’t see them”. He went on to explain that we weren’t supposed to have the middle school kids on campus since the college is there as well or they wouldn’t get the ability to issue these visas. The school went as far as moving people’s offices to make it look like the middle school was separate. They also removed signs in front of buildings so the agents wouldn’t see it was all one school. I told my supervisor ok and a half hour after he left I told him I got a call from my daughter’s school thinking she had strep throat and I had to leave. My supervisor freaked out asking when I would return because he needed my help along with the others to hide the students and monitor the halls because THEY CANNOT BE SEEN!!!!! He’s yelling at me at this point. I explained to him if she had strep throat I wouldn’t be returning today and I wouldn’t be in the next day because she can’t return to her school until 24 hours on antibiotics. He told me to have my parents watch her or hire a babysitter still yelling at me. I explained my parents were away and I couldn’t afford a sitter on the salary they are paying me and left. In the last few weeks I called Homeland Security to report the incident. I don’t know what the result will be or if any investigation will happen. I really need a NEW job. What gets me is the teachers who are mostly Chinese or from other countries happily agreed to hiding the students. When I spoke with the few American teachers that work there, they were never told of the situation and kept in the dark.
