First of all, I have not been offered the job yet but I'm asking this question for advice in case they do after my interview next week.
I'm currently a graphic designer for an estate agent, it was never my dream job but it started off pretty well and I've managed to stay there for 3 years now. However I've come to really dislike working there in the past year or so for reasons such as lack of work, colleagues that I have become friends with having left or been fired, distance to drive in and the fact that I've just had my parking space given away to a senior member of staff. There are other reasons, but I won't get into them.
I applied for this other job as a graphic designer for a pretty largish retailer after my girlfriend suggested I do so, she used to work there and claims it's a great company to work for and i received an interview for next week. However this job is only temporary as cover for maternity leave. The job is for basically the same money but likely be more interesting with more work, it's also well within walking distance from my house meaning no more 40 minute drives and I'd save a bunch on fuel.
From anybody who's been in a similar situation, would it be a good idea to leave the security of my permanent position for a temporary one in this scenario? My Gf keeps saying that they could keep me on if I do a good enough job or that the employee on leave may not come back, but is it worth risking potentially being jobless and on the search again after 12 months?
