A potential employer is asking for references, and I can't provide enough.
I don't have much in the way of work experience, and I know that I should've had the references worked out beforehand. Past jobs were content with an address and phone number, but this place wants to talk to specific people.
I would contact my last job, but I quit there after a lot of bullying - I was too overwhelmed to work there any longer. The environment was toxic; it was like middle school. I can't get a reference from there.
My best plan right now, and this isn't ideal, is to be honest with the potential employer's HR about the situation. I want to do so in a way that communicates that I've moved on from that environment, and that I won't be bringing any of that with me. I don't know how to do this. I'd rather not mention anything in the previous paragraph.
