Recent grads - when did you have an epiphany that it's time to donate the college clothing and get a professional wardrobe?

This is kind of embarrassing, but in grad school no one really had money so we all wore regular clothing. I didn't even have any fancy clothing for work except for a blazer from Target that I wore to interviews. While working in corporate, I was eventually told by a Vice President that I needed to fix my image and presence immediately. I went out and bought a lot of professional clothing...but before that, I not only didn't have professional clothing but I also didn't have the means of buying it even if I wanted to. Now I look through my closet and I'm so self-conscious about my cheap clothing that I'm working on replacing to things that make look professional and wealthy. I don't know if I'm the only one who had go through this?
