I recently moved to Chicago 5 months ago for a job that I absolutely hate. I’m not doing the things I wanted and don’t feel challenged at all. I work 9am-7pm or even longer almost everyday despite my boss telling me I’m supposed to work only 9 hrs a day. My depression and life has gone to shit since I’ve worked here but I’m so hesitant to find another job because 1) I feel like my experience from my job prior was so specific that it would be too difficult to find something similar. 2) I heard that my current bosses can find out if I’m job searching indeed because they receive applicants through indeed all the time. A previous employee was found out and was terminated that day. 3) since I’m new, I don’t really get time off to interview. 4) I’m a little scared to tell interviewers why I put my past job as references instead of my current ones. Would it be weird to ask my past job for references? I don’t know if I quitting and finding a new job would be a good idea because I don’t know if I can find a job soon after and I don’t have enough money to not work.
Any advice on what to do?
