I work at a big civil engineering firm, 2 months new to this office & project with a new functional manager, but not new to the company(2 years).. It took weeks to even get partially introduced to the team and scope while doing absolutely nothing, but I finally started getting some work from a senior project engineer. Problem is, he's hard to catch; he's always at meetings on another floor or someone different is at his office like all the time when he is there. So when I do sit down with him, he gives me work but i finish the assignments pretty quick, so by the next time i get to him, days go by.. He actually likes my work and stuff but i feel like he just totally forgets to check back bc he's so busy and he's not even who I'm actually assigned to. (I'm assigned to nobody..)
My manager is not even at this office and he is trash anyway, the project manager is too busy and running around, so this senior engineer is the go to guy. I'm just worried I'm "falling through the cracks" and that this might negatively affect me soon. Guys from other divisions and projects walk by my cube and I feel like they think I'm always on my phone or doing nothing like being on reddit now.. Does this happen at certain offices? Some may wish to have a job like this but I'm worried I can get fired or that I'll never have the chance to learn and grow.
