It's only been four days since I got a verbal offer and a tentative start date for a new job. I went ahead and told my current employer about the new job and put in my notice. I know, I know, you're not supposed to put in notice until you've got that written offer. But my current employer is going to have a hell of a time filling my position in two weeks, let alone less. I thought I was doing the right thing letting them know ASAP. But now that the offer letter just hasn't shown up (it was promised EOD when I got my verbal offer) I'm starting to think I preemptively put in my notice and won't have either job in two weeks' time.
Is it unprofessional to send a follow-up email to my new potential employer asking the status of the offer? Should I just sit and wait? If I don't hear anything within two weeks I suppose I could beg for my old job back, but they're pretty upset I'm leaving and idk if they'll want me crawling back.
