So I’m currently looking for a job near the Bay Area (my family is there). I recently graduated with a BS in Cell Biology, and am in the process of having not one, but two papers published and am presenting at a conference in the spring. While I’m proud of the work I’ve done, I partly am anxious about my ability to get a job in my field, so I’m submitting applications for graduate school.
Most employers have told me that their bioinformatics positions require a masters or more education, so I’m assuming I won’t have a chance at all in the applicant pool. Oftentimes, I just get a funny look because I’ve pursued research that seems unrelated to my field.
But just in case I might have an option...should I try? How many applications should I send out? How CAN I stand out?
