Im a lawyer and was let go from my previous job for reasons explained below. I have an interview on Wednesday and am concerned about how to handle this situation
Hey guys,
I'm a relatively new lawyer. My last boss didn't like me. She found out I was looking at other places to work and fired me on Dec 20. In a letter to me she also cited billing issues (I wasn't able to meet target one month out of the 7 I worked) and competency (I did an agreement for her and she didn't like it). The competency comment was hurtful as I know it is not true. I worked for large firm for 2 years and never heard a single negative comment about my work, so I was very devastated that she would make a comment like that. My old boss at that firm, a senior partner with 20+ years of experience loved me and my work. I admit I'm not perfect and sometimes I don't feel smart, but I try and want to improve.
Anyway, I have a meeting with a potential new firm on Wednesday. I live in a place which has a very small legal community. I have no idea if they know if I was let go or not (I had sent them a resume previously but the timing was wrong last time. So I sent them an email last week just asking them if they had openings now, so I never sent an updated resume). They may have heard through the grapevine that I'm no longer at this old firm. Or noticed my profile is no longer on their website. I'm not sure
So I'm just wondering how to handle this. Do I straight up tell them I was let go? Do I simply say it wasn't a good fit and they let me go? Do I go into detail? I really don't want them to call my previous employer. I'm just really worried and am not sure what to do. I really want/need this job.
Tldr: same as title - was let go and wondering how to explain that in job interview
