Bigged up my current salary and got caught out in my interview. How can I resolve the issue.

Hey all,

Had a phone interview last week and when asked what I was currently on I said 30k so would be expecting around 35k as a bit of a pay rise. They agreed and got me in for an interview today.

During the interview they asked me what I was on and without thinking said 28k. They said I would have to wait until tomorrow to hear but phoned me about 30 mins after to say they want to employ me. However in the phone call, they queried the difference I have mentioned in salary.

They now want me to go away and check with my boss and come back to them. In reality it's 24k. I have always bigged up the salary for every job 8 have gone for and got but never slipped up before.

What's the best way to resolve this issue?
