Hey everyone,
This might not be the right sub for this, but I didn't know where else to put it.
Context - British Born Chinese raised in London, have done my BSc and Masters and have got a graduate job at a Big 4 company as a consultant starting in 2 months time.
Throughout my life I have always used my English name - it's within the top 20 used English names in the UK. However, I also have a Chinese name too that is present on my passport (I must add that it is quite an easy pronunciation for English speakers)
Recently, I have had this notion that I should be prouder of my ethnic heritage and thus have thought about using my Chinese name instead of my English name when it comes to meeting new people/Linkedin/Networking. I also feel that it may stand me out in the company as no one else will have my Chinese name (At least not in my department), whereas the english name may be a bit more common. I do, however, have some reservations about using it, as I have heard that in the UK, many recruiters do discriminate by one's name and in the future I do not want this to be the reason I don't advance or get promoted.
