I'm currently in the waiting process for my dream job.
My initial interview (over the phone) was AWESOME. Truly the best interview I think I've ever had.
- They emailed me for an interview literally 10 mins after I applied.
- Got along great with the hiring manager. We have a lot in common and it felt like we had a really wonderful rapport.
- She seemed really excited about my work experience and told me to expect a call for a second interview the following week.
I interviewed the day before Thanksgiving and she warned me there might be some delay in follow up because of the holiday. Didn't hear anything for a week. I got offered another (part time) position in that time. (It's a good job, but not my dream job.) About a week after my phone interview with the dream job folks, I sent them an email letting them know that I got offered another job and asking where they were in the hiring process.
Had to wait a couple days for a response, but the hiring manager emailed me back and said that they were still in the process of interviewing folks, but that they'd love to go ahead and bring me in for a second interview.
Weird thing: I saw that they reposted the job listing on linked in the day before meeting with me. Not sure what that's about.
The second interview happened this last week (Thurs). I interviewed with the hiring manager and the owner/exec director of the company. I was very nervous, so I feel like I was a tiny bit more awkward than usual, but all in all, I feel like it went really well.
- I felt like I got along well with both of them. I made them laugh and vice versa.
- Got a few nice comments and compliments throughout the session.
- They asked me some personal questions and I feel like we bonded well over the answers.
- They asked me lots of in-depth questions about:
- How I would address specific issues they'd been struggling with
- What I was looking for long-term (my long-term career goals)
- Whether I was planning to keep my company open or if I was planning to shift gears toward working for a company in the future (I'm currently self employed - marketing consultant and graphic designer), etc.
Only bad sign is that they didn't give me clear next steps. Sounds like they're trying to figure out whether they want to hire one person full time or split the work into two part time positions. So at the end of the interview, the hiring manager basically said "thank you for coming in. We're still interviewing folks and trying to figure out how all these puzzle pieces are going to fit together. But I'll be in touch with you in the future." Followed by some nice, generic small talk on the way out, but no goodbye handshake.
Also sent a follow up email to both folks (hiring manager and owner) and got a nice, friendly response back from the owner within an hour of my sending the email. Nothing specific. Just essentially "thank you! I enjoyed getting to know you as well!"
What do y'all think? Is it in the bag or do you see mixed messages here too?
