I (23/m) graduated with a Bachelor's in Public Administration in August of 2016. Took me a little while to find a job but I started working as an auditor for a state agency in January of 2017. A few months into the job, I kind of started to think it wasn't for me. Or at least the office wasn't. I was going in for a normal 40 hour week, but honestly I was doing like 15 hours a week of actual work. I tried asking for more work or trying to help out around the office, but no one really had anything extra for me. I really couldn't stand it and quit in october. I was there 10 months.
Before quitting I had long discussions about it with my wife and I had decided to pursue my interest in electronic music production. I was involved with music for 10+ years but hadn't really gone all out with it. I had been learning production before leaving the state and a few months after leaving the state I put out an EP. I kind of started out slow as far as gigs DJ-ing, but now its picking up. This fall I was actually pretty busy playing gigs in september and october of this year.
But honestly I'm not sure this is going to work out. I've always been the kind of person to have some kind of fallback plan but I don't really have anything now. This is a nice dream to pursue while I'm young and have the ability to pursue this, but I'm unsure what to do with myself if this doesn't really work out. I'm not sure when I should stop pursuing this, and even if I did, I'm not sure what I would want to do professionally.
I really don't know what career path to pursue. I don't really want to go back to the state auditing, it was rough doing pretty much nothing all day there. Maybe it was just a bad office, but it really left a bad taste in my mouth. I was extremely unhappy there. I'm not really sure where to go from here.
