Why is it so hard to get a job in Biotech/research?

I'm a recent college graduate with a B.S. in Cell Biology and Biotechnology. I've been applying to many jobs in Georgia and New York (places where I'm from and where I can fall back to), most of these jobs are universities in which I would perform under the protocol of a PI. However, I've only had three interviews in three months from Emory University; the first two of the interviews where I was rejected later on (the third job still hasn't made a decision 1 month after the interview). I've been rejected virtually everywhere in NY (NYC and Long Island). It shouldn't be this hard to get a job! I have research experience and have presented my research at the Association of Southeastern Biologists! I can't keep going like this forever, I need to start making some money. What should I do? How can I secure a job?
