Offered a job that pays $10k more (before taxes) but concerned about job security. Feedback on my plan, please?

Hello,

I just got promoted at my current job and got an 18% raise (which was great). Shortly after accepting the raise, another company reached out to me and invited me to interview. I accepted and went through the process and was offered the job at $75k.

It all seems great, but the difference is about $66 a check when you factor in insurance offered and bonuses. I currently have excellent job security and the benefits are much better. The new company is relatively small (with great revenue) but the huge risk for my family is the job security aspect of jumping to a new company.

I was going to decline the job offer and counter with the option to consult for the company on an on-going basis. They wanted to hire me to handle a lot of different aspects of the business (design, operations, etc.) which is excellent, I don't have that flexibility now, but again, job security is the most important to my family.
How common is this? I've gone back and forth with this for about five days. Started with thinking about negotiating a severance package, to my current plan which to me, seems like a better option.

Thoughts?
