My boss is quietly dismissing every contribution I make no matter how successful it is. How can I deal with this?
I'm posting this because I want to understand if I'm being passively tossed aside or what.
I like my job and recently asked to be transferred to a more relevant position in terms of the projects I'm working on. I was used for a long time to "cover" for the less competent team members and told my boss that I wouldn't have it anymore. It was my boss' job to manage these people, not mine to let them "slack".
I was given what I wanted in fear of me leaving, and other employees were put under more pressure because of my actions.
Now I'm on more important projects and I'm producing work is clearly high-quality. However, no matter how happy the clients are, my boss refuses to acknowledge my work. My guess is that he's doing this to avoid any further advancement on my part.
Last month I presented a job that left some of my coworkers and the client in awe. It was a really cool product and they really liked. My boss didn't say a single word about it. He ignored the good job completely and went straight to the point with the client.
I thought he did it on purpose so I decided to test my theory on the next assignment. I switch projects with a team member and he presented my work as his, and vice versa. He got tons of compliments, to the point of my boss saying that "my coworker's task was an example of the quality he expects from everyone in the company".
I don't care about compliments, I care about my job being recognized, in both good and bad times.
So there you have it. What's the problem here? Why is my job being "dismissed" if it's done really well, keeps the client happy and brings in tons of money? Why could my boss be acting like this?
EDIT: before anyone suggests this, I already talked to him, multiple times. In fact, he gave me raises, promotions, the kind of work I liked, etc, and he also gives me tons of freedom. And I get it, why complain, right? Because I'm getting the feeling this is all facade he has to put up to keep me here and passively shuts me down.
His business partner is the exact opposite and recognizes my value, but I just don't get why he acts like this...
He acts in such a way that always pushes me to go against him, ask for more in a sort-of-threatening fashion, and force him to give in. Why not act normally and, I don't know, plan for a career growth together, instead of this "I'll dismiss you while I can get away with it until you break". Come on...
