Is renegotiating hourly wage possible?

I’m wondering if anyone has advice regarding renegotiating wages at an hourly job. I started a new job a few months ago. Hourly I make $11.15 with an additional $0.50 for 5 hours of my 8 hour shifts. I’m part-time, but have worked 40 hours a week for them since my second week on the job.

The company I works for say they are proud to offer competitive wages. I had been unemployed for over a month prior and was desperate for a job, so when wages were brought up at the end of my interview and they offered $11.15/hr, I accepted. (Now I know I should’ve asked for more to see what they were willing to give.) When working for a competitor over a year prior I was brought on about a dollar less. I learned that the two major competitors in town offer $12/hr to start, with one even advertising on a large banner on their building, and two of my coworkers that were hired in the same group make over a dollar more than I do.

I’m wondering if it is worth trying to renegotiate my wage, as I would make an additional $2,000 a year gross with the same wage my coworkers.

I am also a due-paying union member. Should I talk to my union rep?
