I have the chance to attend a seminar for my current role that's being hosted by a company I'm actively applying to. How do I make the most of this opportunity without being unprofessional?
About a week ago, I applied for a research position at a local think tank. I'm well qualified and have been trying to make as many in roads and introductions as possible. Even if I don't land this job, I would love to work there in nearly any capacity.
In a last minute twist of fate, I'm being sent to attend a seminar tomorrow at that think tank. The seminar is being hosted by the very department I applied in. The seminar organizer is also the position's hiring manager.
My question is, how do I maximize this opportunity without being unprofessional? I'm going as a representative of my current work with an assignment to learn and represent us. But as I'll be literally getting a foot in the door of my dream work space, I want to make the most of it.
